Young Street Plaza
A Sad Day for Neutral Bay
NSC PRIORITISES CARS OVER PUBLIC OUTDOOR SPACE.
Our community were on track to gain a beautiful plaza in Young Street this year (3D render below), supported by the MAJORITY of locals. Feedback was taken onboard from the temporary pop-up phase and the permanent design is an elegant space with high quality materials, trees, seats, places for people to meet, work and play. BUT last night the councillors from Labor, "Real" Independents & Sustainable Australia voted to pull up this sun-filled and much-utilised Young Street Plaza and make it back into a ROAD??? The Neutral Bay Plaza was fully funded by TfNSW. Now we have to return their $1.9m plus spend $100k of ratepayers money reinstating the road. This doesn't make sense. 353 people took time to offer feedback. TWICE as many people support the plaza than don't. Yet their voices have been ignored. Does the new council ignore community consultation? Residents and small businesses we spoke to this morning are horrified. How do YOU feel about this loss of amenity?
